The EU–ZW NUST partnership has developed a new suite of innovative training modules designed to strengthen regional expertise in renewable energy systems, power plant technologies, artificial intelligence applications, and sustainable waste management. Created by subject matter experts from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in collaboration with European partners, these courses target students, engineers, and professionals seeking to enhance their skills in modern energy technologies.
The newly developed modules include:
1. Introduction to the Photoelectric Effect
Instructor: Peter Baricholo
A foundational module that examines the principles of the photoelectric effect—an essential concept for understanding the operation and efficiency of photovoltaic technologies and solar energy systems.2. Fuels
Instructor: Nonhlanhla Mguni
This module provides an overview of different fuel types, offering essential knowledge relevant to energy production and resource management.3–4. Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear Waste Management
Instructor: Peter Baricholo
These modules introduce learners to the fundamentals of nuclear power plant systems as well as the management and disposal of nuclear waste, highlighting critical competencies in cross-domain energy management.5. Hydropower Plant Technology
Instructor: Kudzai Mushunje
An introduction to the design and operation of hydropower plants, focusing on principles that improve efficiency, reliability, and automation in modern power generation systems.6. Battery and PV Waste Management
Instructor: Donald Tapfuma
This course emphasizes sustainable methods for reusing and recycling solar panels and battery waste, supporting circular-economy practices within the renewable energy sector.Through these targeted training modules, the EU–ZW NUST partnership continues to advance energy education across Zimbabwe and the wider region, equipping professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable energy systems.
