- NUST Organizes An Internal Module Writers’ Workshop Under The EU-ZW Project

EU-ZW project has been in operation for about 18 months now, and the five Zimbabwean universities participating on the project are the National University of Science and Technology, Chinhoyi University of Technology, Midlands State University, Lupane State University, and the University of Zimbabwe. One of the main objectives of the project is to develop digital modules that could be used in the teaching of Energy courses offered by these universities.
On Wednesday, 7 May 2025 training workshop for module writers under the EU-ZW project was held at NUST in the Applied Physics Boardroom.. The workshop was facilitated by Prof Engr. Mhlanga and Dr P. Baricholo. Out of a total of twelve targeted participants, ten managed to attend. The main aim of the workshop was to train participants on how to use the “Time Learnify” digital platform. After all the introduction formalities and housekeeping issues had been addressed, the workshop started with Prof Mhlanga highlighting the purpose of the workshop and immediately explained that since this was a hands-on training, attendees had to log on to their “learnify accounts” and create their personal accounts using the available template. All the participants successfully logged on using their laptops and updated their accounts with their personal information.
Since a Word document template for module developers was circulated prior to attending the workshop, participants were requested to bring their word document-drafted modules for use during the workshop. Hence, a step-by-step walk-through of how to populate the module template was given by Prof Mhlanga with participants following through on their laptops.
The key takeaways for the workshop were that the concept of module on this project refers to the presentation of learning materials to be studied by the students over a period of at most 4 hours. A number of modules would constitute a course, and hence, the module could be considered as a lesson/lecture with a minimum duration of 2 hours. Participants were to have this concept in mind during module development.
Participants were encouraged to complete their first module and share it with the facilitators within the next two weeks, as this would allow the facilitators to provide feedback before they could proceed to develop the rest of their modules.
