As part of the promotional dissemination material, I am pleased to share with you that several members of the EU-ZW project presented cutting-edge research presentations at the recently held 4th Annual Education for Sustainable Development Interdisciplinary Research (ESDIR) Blended Conference. The conference was held ta the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) from the 16th of October to the 18 of October 2024. Most of the researches presented are related to the ongoing EU-ZW project. The conference ran under the theme "Exploring Innovative Approaches & Emerging Trends in Education for Sustainable Development". The project EU-ZW Digital Challenge Driven Energy Learning Collaboration Between EU and Zimbabwe is funded by the European Union. The event was graced by the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZMCHE CEO), Prof K.P. Dzvimbo, who was the guest of honour. Other invited speakers of note were Prof C Vevaina (Christ University, India), Prof M Chitiyo (University of North Carolina, USA), and Prof K. Ferreira Meyers (University of Eswatini, Kingdom of Eswatini).
List of presentations:
1. Profs Samson and Ndudzo Phuti, et al. presented a paper on "Innovative course Management through the Quality Improvement Process: inter-university Initiatives promoting sustainable development". In the bid to contribute to SDG4 Quality Education, the paper highlighted the process of QIP in co-created course modules across global partnerships.
2. Samson et al. presented a paper on "Remote Lab Concept in Training of Energy Courses using ICT: Case Study EU-ZW Project in Zimbabwe", which highlighted the development of Labs in solar thermal, Wind, Biogas, Battery Storage and Photovoltaic for Productive use by the local partners National University of Science and Technology, Midlands State University, University of Zimbabwe, Lupane State University, Chinhoyi University of Technology supported by Mälardalen University , Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Explore Energy AB Sweden. Much attention was drawn with participants already wanting to book a slot in the labs which are at procurement stage.
3. Lwazi Sibanda, Paul Zvawanda, et al. presented a paper on " "Flipped Classroom: A Twenty-first Century Active Learning Pedagogy" which answered to the need of how to handle modular classes.
4. Busiso Mtunzi et al. presented a paper titled " Challenge Driven Learning in Energy Courses, and its impact on skills", which was illustrated by examples of challenges and competitions partaken by our students like Enactus NUST, Wetskills among others
